Fiori Hub Deployment: HANA required?

Hi Gurus,

We are going to be deploying Fiori in a customer's environment, they will be implementing S/4HANA 1511.

With an external Fiori/Gateway server not located on the same box as the S/4HANA App/DB server, does Fiori require its own HANA database, or can we see all the performance increase from S/4HANA back-end server if we run Fiori NetWeaver server on MSSQL/Oracle?
